The Copper River Group's web site URL and official mascot are inspired by the wombat, a small, short-legged marsupial typically found in Australia. Using their powerful arms and legs, wombats would dig burrow systems for food and shelter.
In the 1860s, wombats became an important friend to copper miners. While creating their burrows, wombats threw copper ore to the surface. These holes helped identify some of the largest and most profitable copper mines in Australia.
